田中正起（Masaki Tanaka、筆頭著者）、土佐幸雄（Yukio Tosa、責任著者、神戸大学大学院農学研究科生命機能科学専攻 教授）ら、神戸大学農学系の論文が画像操作、再使用で撤回された（写し１、写し２）。撤回理由は
「The authors of Tanaka et al. 23:771-783 (2010) retracted this article because it proved to contain a pair of identical images that were used to represent different treatments in Figure 2A. This article was retracted on 3 June 2015.」（撤回公告より）
具体的に示す。これはPubPeerで指摘されたもの（写し）。
土佐幸雄のPubPeerでの説明によると「I am Y. Tosa, the corresponding author of this article. When I first received these comments, I was very much surprised. However, a scrutiny of the pictures led me to a conclusion that they are actually very similar and mirror images. The right one seems to have been produced by turning the left one over on a computer. I am going to contact the editor of MPMI and follow his advice. I think that we should retract this article.」（PubPeerより）
要するに左側の画像を上下反転し、異なる処置条件の画像として再使用してしまったのが右の画像。ポピュラーな画像捏造、改ざん。画像精査で土佐幸雄は画像流用と加工を認め、論文の撤回をエディターに申し出て撤回された。私はこれは良い事だと思う。PubPeerでは土佐幸雄の説明に対し、「An exemplary response, I hope you are able to get to the bottom of things.」というコメントがよせられた。なお、リトラクションウォッチでも報じられた（写し）。
実際、誰が捏造や改ざんをやったのだろう？真相にたどりつけると良い。
私は日本でも土佐幸雄のように潔く不正を認めて論文を撤回する人がいてよかったと思う。今まで何度か述べてきたので具体的には言わないが、だんまりを決め込んで逃げている人たちがいる。研究公正や他の人たちが損害を被らない事より保身が大事という事だろうが、誤りを訂正する、説明する等最低限度の事さえやらずに保身に走っている態度は許し難いです。
そういう意味では土佐幸雄の対応はPubPeerのコメントのとおりexemplary（模範的）かもしれませんね。加藤茂明氏ももっと見直されていいと思いますが。
